Musical Performance 10 - Noon on the Porch!
Musical Guest: Ben Kincaid
If you’ve been around the Old Town Farmers’Market for
long, you’ve seen Ben Kincaid grow from a talented child
to an even more talented young man. At seventeen, Ben
has quite a list of accomplishments in his saxophone
playing career. Ben has performed solo at The Pentagon
in Washington, D.C., at Boys & Girls Club Headquarters
in Atlanta, and at local, regional and national events, to
include Interlochen Arts Academy Jazz Program, Michigan,
and Jamey Aebersold Jazz Workshop in Chicago. In
Wichita, he is a member of Mid-Kansas Jazz Ensemble
(WSU), Cool Blue Big Band, and the Ben Kincaid Jazz
Combo. A junior at Wichita Southeast High, Ben is First
Alto in concert & jazz bands and Mid-Kansas Jazz
Ensemble. He has performed with artists like Bobby
Watson, Fingerprints, Ronnie Laws, Gregg Skaff and
Eldar Djangirov but local mentors have been Ben’s biggest inspiration. He considers his music to be predominantly straightahead jazz with expressive solos. You’ll enjoy Ben’s talent and spirit at the Old Town Farmers’Market.
In a large bowl, stir together the cornstarch and 1/4 cup cold water until cornstarch is completely dissolved. Add 1 cup sugar, lemon juice, and blackberries; combine gently. Transfer to a cast iron skillet, about 8-inch. In a bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Blend in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add 1/4 cup boiling water and stir the mixture just until it a soft dough is formed.
Bring the blackberry mixture to a boil, stirring. Drop spoonfuls of the dough carefully onto the boiling mixture, and bake the cobbler on a baking sheet (line with foil to avoid a mess) in the middle of a preheated 400° oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the topping is golden. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
The granddaddy of all art hikes, the Final Friday Gallery Tour, takes place - you guessed it - on the Final Friday of each month from 6-9 p.m. This fun and increasingly popular social event is focused on Wichita’s thriving art scene. Many of the arts venues (including galleries, studios, museums and sometimes restaurants, bars and shops) time their new exhibits for unveiling on Final Fridays, so there’s always something new to see.
Although most of the galleries are located in the heart of the city extending from Delano to
Old Town, there is no mistaking each of them l l Old Town Farme r s Õ Ma rke t Repor t l www.oldtownfarmersmarket.com 2 Our Sponsors: has their own unique style and spirit. In
addition, many restaurants and shops often have temporary art exhibits that showcase
local or regional artists. Enjoy the original works of art and indulge yourself in the
company of other art enthusiasts. Along the way, you might uncover a live jazz trio setting
the mood, complimentary hors d’ouvres and wine, or even an exciting opportunity to
mingle with the artists.
Whether you’re an experienced collector, a beginner or just thinking about how great it
would be to own original works of art, you’ll discover something to add to your collection
each month during the Final Friday Gallery Tour. To get started just log onto
www.downtownwichita.org and check out the calendar of events to find a listing of
participating venues.
