Chefs Table at Center Court 8:30
Chef: Brian Mangers
Brian Mangers comes to Cibola’s Restaurant in Bradley Fair
after serving the McPherson Country Club as Executive Chef
for four years. He developed his southern/Louisiana/Creole
style of cooking while training at the Carriage Club in Kansas
City’s Mission Hills before going to McPherson. Brian will be
visiting our market for the first time this season as he is a relative
“newcomer” to Wichita. What does he love about a farmers’
market? “The vibrant colors of the produce and the extensive
variety”.
Kid’s Corner at Center Court 9:30 - 11:30
Musical Performance 10 - Noon on the Porch!
Musical Guest: Wayne Long and Arthetta
Wayne Long and high school sweetheart, Arthetta,
perform a variety of music styles on vintage National
resophonic guitars as well as a standard six string
guitar. They have played at festivals, private parties,
coffeehouses and concert halls. You won’t have to
listen long to hear the influence of such guitar greats as
Mississippi John Hurt, Tampa Red and Merle Travis.
They will take you on a musical journey through the
hills of Kentucky, the swamps of Louisiana, around the street corner and
into the coffee shops of Greenwich Village. You will
enjoy this warm and engaging performance.
KOHLRABI STIR-FRY
3 medium kohlrabi
Nonstick cooking spray
1/2 cup sliced onions
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1 1/2 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
2 tablespoons butter
12 ounces broiled lean sirloin, cut into strips
2 cups cooked vermicelli
Black pepper to taste
Cut the leaves and stems from the kohlrabi bulbs. Trim the bulbs to remove all trace of the skin and fibrous under layer. Or cook whole kohlrabi, cool briefly, then peel. Cut the kohlrabi into 1/2-inch chunks. You should have 2 cups.
Meanwhile, spray a nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Add the onions and cook over medium heat for 2 minutes. Add the kohlrabi chunks, mushrooms, oyster sauce, parsley and butter. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Add the broiled beef strips and cooked vermicelli and cook over medium heat, tossing frequently, until the meat is heated through. Season mixture with pepper to taste, then serve.
Makes 4 servings.

If you are looking for just the right bedding plants or
professional advice to turn your yard into a colorful
display, you will want to visit with Eric Moots at the
Eureka Greenhouses booth. Eric and his wife, Lisa,
own and operate the business started by Eric’s father
in 1958 in Eureka, Kansas. For many years they have
been operating a wholesale business supplying
blooming plants to florists across Kansas. About 10
years ago they started bringing an assortment of
bedding plants, perennials, and combination pots to
the market and started their successful retail side of
the business. Their newest project is a garden center
in Eureka where they can fill the year round gardening
and landscaping needs of their local community. In
addition to the education Eric received at his father’s
side as he was growing up, he went on to obtain a
horticultural degree from Kansas State University.
He is certainly equipped to answer any of your lawn and garden questions you may have.
Eric and Lisa have two sons, Wayne and Wesley, aged 9 and 11, who sometimes give their Dad a hand at market on Saturdays. The Moots family is a valuable asset to their community in many ways. Lisa is heavily involved in Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Eureka. Eric coaches the local baseball team and loves to hunt and fish. He invites all of you fishermen to bring your fishing pictures by his booth any Saturday and swap stories.
Contamination of air and water is greatly reduced when food is sold locally and grown ecologically. When you choose to buy produce from the Old Town Farmers Market, you reduce the amount of toxins that we breathe and drink.
Catch a carriage ride at the Farmers’ Market on Saturdays from
