Contamination of air and water is greatly reduced when food is sold locally and grown ecologically. When you choose to buy produce from the Old Town Farmers Market, you reduce the amount of toxins that we breathe and drink.
Please join the Old Town Farmers’ Market on May 14 as we “Let Freedom Swing” in appreciation of our nation’s armed forces.
The month of May is designated as National Military Appreciation Month.
This very important month honors those Americans who have given their lives in defense of our nation’s freedom and the men and women now serving in uniform. It recognizes those on active duty in all branches of the services, the National Guard and Reserves plus retirees, veterans, and all of their families – well over 80 million Americans and more than 227 years of our nation’s history.
Each Saturday during the month of May, the Information Booth will be a collection point for items needed by the more than 2,000 Kansas Army National Guard personnel who are currently deployed.
Items needed:
Baby wipes, pipe cleaners, Q tips, international phone cards, microwave food items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bandaids, first aid ointments, toilet paper

Food, Wine & Fun...for your ears!
Chefs Table at Center Court 8:30
Chef: Executive Chef David Wirebaugh from the Wichita Hyatt was raised on a
tobacco and cattle farm in Kentucky and is no stranger to the joys of rural living. After serving in the Navy as a Galley Captain, Chef David started working for the Hyatt Hotel Corporation and has been with them for twenty five years. He was transferred to Wichita from Florida a year and a half ago. He considers the southwestern cuisine to be his favorite. This will be David’s second appearance at the Chef Table where he really puts a shine on his demonstrations. What does he love about the market? “Fresh produce and the people”.
Kid’s Corner at Center Court 9:30 - 11:30
Musical Performance 10 - Noon on the Porch!
Musical performers: Cool Blue will be performing with their “big band” on the market square where the Old Town Farmers’Market is going to LET FREEDOM SWING!!
Cool Blue had its first gig over 10 years ago. With over 200 gigs of experience, including over 100 wedding receptions, they offer a wide range of swing, jazz, blues and rock. They offer 5 different size bands, from a jazz quartet up to their full 15 piece big band. You will love the foot tapping, big band swing and hopefully will bring your dancing shoes as we celebrate National Armed Forces Month.
Because there’s no way you’ll hear enough of these performers today, you may want to catch them at one of their regular performances at the Wichita Marriott.
The Old Town Farmers’ Market is . . . “A Community Center, a place to meet old friends and make new friends, a small town atmosphere in the middle of a city, a true breath of fresh air surrounded by beautiful flowers and gorgeous fresh fruits and vegetables. Multitudes of people seem to fit right in to what we believe are small town qualities. Friendly, courteous, helpful, kind and caring people, both the vendors and the customers act as though they are happy to see you and wish you well.
It means more than good economic development, another needed draw to our down town, an added element to the synergism that adds to the diversity of a city, but it is so much more than this. It is a feeling of community that enriches one and gives you the good feeling that, even now, with all of our worldly problems and travails, there is a center of calm and refreshment as close as the Farmers’ Market at Old Town. May it live and prosper forever.”
by Jerry W. Cole
Editor’s note: Jerry and I fell into the category of “new friends” as we got to know each other
at the Market last year. Jerry rarely missed a market and when he did, he was missed. He passed away last fall but his words of encouragement linger.
